ICT in Education Policy

In this global education the world needs people of the worldwide rather than people of a particular nation or place. People who are able to:

·         Build their own understanding of world events.

·         Think about their values and what's important to them.

·         Take learning into the real world.

·         Get involved in their local, national and global communities.

·         See that they have power to act and influence the world around them.

Rwanda as a developing country which needs to shift from agriculture based economy to a
knowledge-based society and middle income country has made a policy of achieving this through education especially the use of ICT in education as a key to provide future global citizens who are aware of and understand the wider world and their place in it.

This policy complements Education for global citizenship which is not considered as an additional subject to be taught in classroom but as a framework for learning, reaching beyond school to the wider community and I think this is a better way for us as Rwandans especially teachers to implement   this social and economic transformation through providing future global citizens as this is the focus of Rwandan Education.

We are implementing this policy but with difficulties, among them I can say:

·         Inadequate infrastructure

·         Lack of equipment

·         Connectivity costs

·         The absence of a culture around the use of ICT (sometimes people says that ICT is for people who live in urbans areas)

But even we are challenged like that we continue to implement this policy in our school through teaching global citizenship and digital literacy to both learners and teachers and we hope we will achieve.
