Key terms - Lesson 1
Gender equity
is the process of being fair to women and men (Subrahmanian, 2005). Gender equity calls for those who are in disadvantaged positions to have fair share of the benefits. This means giving to those who have less based on needs and introducing special measures and interventions to compensate for the historical and social disadvantages that prevent women and men from operating on a level playing field. Gender equity leads to gender equality.
